Which studies to work in the environment?

| |

Faced with the climate emergency, global warming, the disappearance of plant and animal species, pollution, melting ice and many other causes, young people are mobilizing for the planet as shown by the study of Credoc (Research Center for the study and observation of living conditions) published in 2019. They are, in fact, more concerned about environmental concerns, as this will lead to changes in their daily lives in the short and long term, if nothing is done. More and more of them are aware of ecological and sustainable issues and want to work in the environmental field. But, then, which studies should they choose?

Post-Bac programs

Willing to change their lifestyles and practices, the younger generations are enrolling directly after their Baccalaureate in universities or schools in order to study in the environmental field. To integrate a school of environment is, indeed, a dream for those who want to change mentalities and protect the planet from the harmful actions of Man.

Several study sectors exist and are grouped into 3 main categories

  1. sustainable development ;
  2. green economy ;
  3. hygiene and cleanliness.

After your Baccalaureate, you can pursue a BTS or a DUT in order to be operational in 2 years. These short, professionalizing courses are ideal for those who want to enter the working world quickly. You study the fundamentals and specialize in a specific field through internships or work-study contracts.

Higher education at the Bac+3 level

The number of environmental jobs, also known as green and greening jobs, increased by 35% between 2004 and 2014. This strong growth is synonymous with job-generating and recruiting sectors.

Although it is quite possible to enter the working world with a Bac+2 degree, you can also decide to continue your studies in order to specialize further. To do this, a Bachelor’s degree offers a wide range of specialties: air, water, soil, renewable energies, waste… A real plus on your CV, this diploma also allows you to access positions of responsibility, and thus a higher salary.

Further studies at Bac+5 level

After obtaining your Bac+3 degree, you can continue your studies by choosing a Bac+5 degree. Master’s degree, Master’s degree, MBA… a wide range of studies are available to you! It all depends on your future professional aspirations.

A Master’s degree is ideal for studying a general topic and going deeper into specific subjects thanks to various options. Moreover, internships also allow you to create professional experience that will be valued on your CV. A specialized Master’s degree, on the other hand, allows you to focus your training on a particular subject and thus acquire specialized skills and knowledge. Moreover, with this program, it is possible to obtain a double degree. Studying in an MBA program is an excellent way to combine theoretical courses with professional experience thanks to the numerous periods spent in companies (work-study, internships, etc.). You should also know that the profile of an engineer is extremely sought after. Completing an engineering degree will allow you to obtain this title and an attractive salary.
